Our Cougar Family is heartbroken as we share the devastating news of the unexpected passing of one of our beloved 2nd grade students, Emily Potratz. This loss has deeply affected our entire school community—students, teachers, and families alike—as we come to terms with the absence of a bright, joyful young life that touched so many in such a short time.
Emily was a cherished member of our school, known for her sweet spirit, kindness, and the happiness she brought into the classroom each day. Her smile could light up a room, and her presence made a difference to her classmates and teachers in ways that will not be forgotten. Moments shared with Emily—whether through learning, laughter, or simple acts of friendship—will remain in our hearts.
Each year at our 5th grade promotion ceremony, we say, “Once a Cougar, always a Cougar.” In this time of sorrow, those words carry even greater meaning. Emily will forever be a part of our Cougar Family, and her memory will continue to live on within our school community. We stand together in support of her family, holding them close in our thoughts and surrounding them with love and compassion.
Monday would have been Emily’s 8th birthday, a day that should have been filled with celebration. To honor her life and the joy she brought to others, we invite everyone to wear her favorite colors—pink, purple, and aqua. This small but meaningful gesture will serve as a reminder of Emily’s vibrant spirit and the love she shared with those around her.
As we remember Emily, let us also take care of one another, offering kindness, comfort, and support during this incredibly difficult time.
