With deep respect and heartfelt sorrow, we remember the life of Richard A. Bachman Sr., who passed away on April 11, 2026, at Geisinger Medical Center. A devoted public servant, family man, and beloved member of the Scranton community, his passing marks the loss of a life defined by service, passion, and genuine kindness.

Born in Scranton to the late Alfred and Lorraine Shook Bachman, Rich was a proud graduate of North Pocono High School and a member of the first class of the Lackawanna College Police Academy. He dedicated 29 years to the Scranton Police Department, serving with honor and commitment before continuing his public service as the zoning officer for Taylor Borough.

Beyond his professional life, Rich’s heart belonged to hockey. For over two decades, he served as a USA Hockey official, was a former president of the Wilkes-Barre Jr. Penguins youth organization, and spent more than 15 years as a timekeeper for the AHL Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins. His love for the sport extended to his family, especially his son and grandson, creating a legacy rooted in shared passion and pride.

Rich will be remembered for his vibrant personality—always smiling, always ready with a friendly “How YOU doing,” and never short on stories that brought laughter to those around him. In his free time, he found joy in motorcycle rides, traveling, fishing, caring for his rescue dogs, and attending concerts, especially those of Barry Manilow, whom he admired deeply.

He is survived by his fiancée Jolene Vaskie, his children, grandson, brother, and extended family. A celebration of life will be held on April 16 at Steamtown Church in Scranton.

Rich’s legacy of love, service, and joy will never be forgotten.
